An All-sky Optical Seti Survey
نویسندگان
چکیده
We present plans for an all-sky search for pulsed optical SETI beacons at Agassiz station in Harvard, Massachusetts. We will use a 1.8 meter f/2.5 spherical “light bucket” (2-3 arcmin resolution) focused onto a multi-pixel camera consisting of sixteen 64-pixel photomultiplier tubes (with pixels measuring 1.5 arcmin on a side) in two matched focal planes. It will observe a 1. ◦6× 0 . ◦2 patch of the sky in transit mode, thereby covering the Northern sky (−20◦ < δ < +60◦) in 150 clear nights. Fast custom IC electronics will monitor corresponding pixels for coincident optical pulses of nanosecond timescale, triggering storage of a detailed digitized waveform of the light flash. Analysis will be similar to that from our ongoing targeted search. Subject headings: interstellar communication; SETI

Status of the UC-Berkeley SETI Efforts
We summarize radio and optical SETI programs based at the University of California, Berkeley. The SEVENDIP optical pulse search looks for ns time scale pulses at visible wavelengths. It utilizes an automated 30 inch telescope, three ultra fast photo multiplier tubes and a coincidence detector. The target list includes F, G, K and M stars, globular cluster and galaxies. The ongoing SERENDIP V.v ...
متن کاملSETHI@Berkeley– A Piggyback 21-cm Sky Survey at Arecibo
SETI@home observes a 2.5 MHz bandwidth centered on 1420 MHz near the 21-cm line using a short line feed at Arecibo which provides a 6 beam. This feed sits on Carriage House 1, which means that during normal astronomical observations with the new Gregorian dome the feed scans across the sky at twice the sidereal rate. We are using the SETI@home receiver to obtain about 4 4 106 spectra per year w...
متن کاملThree Years of SETI@home: A Status Report
The SETI@home project has recently completed its third year of active data analysis. Over 4 million volunteers have joined the search, providing a combined total of over 1 million CPU-years of processing power. SETI@home performs a sensitive search for extraterrestrial signals in a 2.5 MHz band centered on 1420 MHz. SETI@home searches a wide parameter space including 14 octaves of signal bandwi...
متن کاملThe Use of Gamma-ray Bursts as Direction and Time Markers in SETI Strategies
When transmitting a signal over a large distance it is more efficient to send a brief beamed signal than a continuous omni-directional transmission but this requires that the receiver knows where and when to look for the transmission. For SETI, the use of various natural phenomena has previously been suggested to achieve the desired synchronization. Here it is proposed that gamma-ray bursts may...
متن کاملThe Northern Sky Optical Cluster Survey Iii: a Cluster Catalog Covering Pi Steradians
We present the complete galaxy cluster catalog from the Northern Sky Optical Cluster Survey, a new, objectively defined catalog of candidate galaxy clusters at z <∼ 0.25 drawn from the Digitized Second Palomar Observatory Sky Survey (DPOSS). The data presented here cover the Southern Galactic Cap, as well as the less-well calibrated regions of the Northern Galactic Cap. In addition, due to impr...
